A pair of severe thunderstorms, and possibly a small tornado, passed through southern Lafayette County on June 26. One of the storms left a swath of damage at the Deatherage farm, located on Goose Creek Road just off Missouri Route PP. Alan Deatherage said the tornado tracked through their farm.
“The tornado cut a path through our farm directly in the path of our machine shop, completely removing it from its foundation,” he said. “As it travelled east, it passed just to the north of the house, causing large amounts of damage to the home.”
No one was home when the storm hit and destroyed the machine shop, Deatherage said, hurling debris into the family’s home and causing major damage to the structure.
“Tuesday night and Wednesday proved there are many great people around, as we had friends, relatives and neighbors come in waves of help to clean up the destruction,” Deatherage added.
