Lady Chiefs take care of business in first three matches

Wednesday, September 12, 2018

After a triangular against Green Ridge High School and I-70 Conference foe Concordia High School, the Santa Fe Chiefs got the start they wanted, going 2-0 in the opener. They then traveled to Carrollton High School and stuck it to the Lady Trojans, winning in straight sets.

Santa Fe 2
Green Ridge 1 (28-26, 27-29, 25-19)

It wasn’t easy, but the Lady Chiefs pulled the victory off against a fellow Class 1 state playoff team, Green Ridge High School. The first two sets went into overtime, but the third match saw the Chiefs rise up and shut down the Lady Tigers, picking up a 2-1 victory.
Across the three sets, senior Katarina Langan served four aces, while freshman Isabella Limback picked up three in her high school debut. Sophomore Carrigan Smith led the way in kills for the squad, tapping in 13. Senior Josey Burton smacked in 10, as well.
Smith dug 10 attempts, while Langan, Limback, junior Maddi Schuette, and freshman Taylor Boothe had nine. It was an encouraging result for the Chiefs and head coach Kinsey Harms.
“With the number of missed serves and hitting errors I’m surprised they didn’t beat us,” Harms said. “We have a very good team this year with the potential to be great. … Once we get those things under control we should be pretty tough.”
The win gives Santa Fe their first victory in their first attempt.

In the second match of the triangular the Chiefs were able to overcome the home field advantage and put Concordia High School down, 2-0.
The Chiefs got it done in the tightly-contested sets through the youth movement, as freshman Taylor Boothe (seven kills, eight digs), sophomore Carrigan Smith (six kills, six digs), and freshman Isabella Limback (one kill, six digs) led the way.
The result gave the Chiefs their second win in as many attempts, advancing to 2-0 (0-0).

Santa Fe 2
Carrollton 0 (25-12, 25-6)

In their first match away from the triangular setting, Santa Fe stuck it to the Carrollton High School Lady Trojans, winning both sets handily in their Tuesday, Aug. 28 nonconference matchup.
Senior Josey Burton paced the squad in kills and digs, finishing with five each. Sophomore Carrigan Smith had five aces, while senior Katarina Langan dished the rock to the tune of 10 assists.
“We were just glad to eliminate the missed serves from last night (at the triangular),” coach Kinsey Harms said. “We played much more controlled tonight. … Hitting improved, as well.”
The Chiefs will hope to further improve and continue a perfect season, which has gotten off to a 3-0 (0-0) start thus far.
