Saints fall short of WellNap
Week 7 revealed a difficult matchup for Saint Paul Lutheran High School, as Wellington-Napoleon High School continued its dominant season with a 41-8 victory against the Saints.
Without a shutout looming, the Saints dug deep and were able to put points on the board with 2:17 left in the game. Senior quarterback Micah Lemmons found freshman Ethan Kirby for a touchdown from three yards out.
Lemmons had his hands full with a stout Tigerís defense, going nine of 27 for 71 yards and two interceptions. Senior Aidin Muehler led the team in catches (four) and yards (30), while fellow senior Elijah Muehler caught three passes for 21 yards.
Sophomore Kaden Olsen was able to get some carries for the Saints, turning eight attempts into 25 yards.
While the Saints will have to improve in certain areas in order to potentially make a postseason run, they have no reason to hang their heads after this matchup, as Wellington-Napoleon maintained its status atop the I-70 Conference in advancing to 5-2 (5-0) with the victory.
Saint Paul falls to 1-6 (1-4) with the loss. A very winnable matchup looms in Week 8, as winless Missouri Military Academy comes to Concordia for a matchup with SPLHS.
