Saint Paul Lutheran High School to present annual Christmas concert
The music department of Saint Paul Lutheran High School, in Concordia, will perform its annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, in the sanctuary of St. Paulís Lutheran Church, located at 401 S. Main Street in Concordia.
The program will feature the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and Saint Paul Concert Band, as well as the Singing Saints Concert Choir and the Saint Paul Chamber Choir. The concert is under the direction of Dr. Jerrode Baker Marsh, Director of Music at SPLHS.
The concert will feature Christmas favorites such as Angels We Have Heard on High, Some Children See Him, It Came Upon the Midnight Clear, and the Vaughan-Williams Fantasia on Greensleeves. Other special highlights will include the Chamber Choir performing the recent Pentatonix Christmas hit O Come, All Ye Faithful and the Singing Saints performance of the Nigerian carol Betelehemu, accompanied by a percussion ensemble.
The Singing Saints audience members will be able to sing along on several carols, accompanied by full orchestra. The concert will again conclude with the choir and orchestra performing Handelís Hallelujah Chorus.
The 56-voice concert choir returned in June 2018 from its first international tour, where 38 members of the choir performed a 19-day concert tour of Central Europe, singing in Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. Both the Singing Saints and the Chamber Choir received top ratings from all four judges at their state competition this past March, and many students also received top ratings at both District and State levels for their vocal and instrumental solos, and their small ensemble performances.
