Two Illinois residents die as result of Tuesday crash in Lafayette County

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, a multi-vehicle crash on an ice-covered road resulted in the deaths of two Illinois residents in Lafayette County on Tuesday. The crash occurred just after 6:30 p.m. at the 39.6 mile marker in Interstate 70.

The report states the crash occurred as a 2006 Pontiac driven by Samantha Rios, 20, of Kansas City, Kan., reportedly lost control of her westbound vehicle. The vehicle then skidded into and out of the median directly into the path of a westbound 2019 Freightliner driven by Bakhodir Razakberdiev, 24, of Brooklyn, N.Y.

A passenger in Riosí vehicle, Kaleb Huddleston, 21, of Effingham, Ill., was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Independence, where he was pronounced dead. A second passenger in the Rios vehicle, Wendy Rios, 19, of Altamont, Ill., was pronounced dead by personnel from the Lafayette County Deputy Medical Examinerís office at the scene. The driver of the Pontiac and another passenger, Ryan Kumm, 19, of Independence, sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to a hospital in Independence for treatment. The driver of the Freightliner reportedly was not injured.
