Despite leaving it all on the court, the Orioles’ championship aspirations were dashed, as they would ultimately fall to the Hornets, 58-43.
A low-scoring first half would find the Orioles trailing, 8-7, despite four points from senior Cameron Kelly and a three-point field goal from senior Tad Deatherage.
The Hornets’ lead would expand in the second quarter, as the Orioles would take a 21-16 deficit into the halftime intermission. Senior Matthew Gatewood collected eight points in the quarter, but the rest of the Orioles would only be able to add one total point to the second quarter tally.
St. Elizabeth stepped it up offensively following the intermission, recording quarters of 16 points in the third and 21 points in the fourth. The Orioles wouldn’t be able to match the offensive efficiency as the game wound down, ultimately succumbing to the Hornets, 58-43.
Three O’s did the majority of the offensive work, with Gatewood (16 points) and Kelly (13 points) leading the way. Deatherage finished with 11 points. Gatewood knocked down four three-point shots in the game, while Deatherage converted on three.
The loss would end the Orioles season at 18-9 (6-1).
St. Elizabeth would win their next matchup as well, advancing them to the Class 1 Show-Me Showdown. They enter the competition with a 23-5 record.
