Orioles look to win from the links

Wednesday, April 3, 2019

The 2019 Concordia High School Orioles boys golf team may lack sheer numbers, but they certainly plan on making up for that as they continue into their season.

“We have two seniors on the team, Tad Deatherage and Turner Yount,” head coach Brendan David said, “one junior (Jose Bermudez), and three freshmen: Owen Mulligan, Aiden Borgstadt, and Gwyneth Oliveros.”

Deatherage is known in the winter for putting the basketball in the circle, and he hopes to both continue that from the green and improve on an impressive 33rd place finish in the 2018 state tournament, where he shot a 180.

The Orioles are expecting themselves to bring back a conference championship and keep the same energy come districts, hopefully qualifying as a team for sectionals and sending as many golfers to state as possible.

Deatherage will be turned to as a leader on the squad, but a team with more members this season and a ton of upside could have Orioles’ fans going crazy from the spectator’s box.
