Orioles tracksters succeed in sectional track meet
Seven Concordia High School track athletes competed in the Class 1 Sectional 3 track meet in Russellville on May 11, with the top four in each event qualifying for the state meet. It was a successful meet for CHS, as three Orioles secured their bids in the final meet of the year.
Freshman Cate Cooper set a new school record in the girls’ high jump (5-02), good enough to qualify to state and win the sectional title.
Sophomore Carys Brockman earned herself a bid to the state meet, as well, placing fourth in the girls’ long jump (15-04). She just missed double-qualifying, coming fifth place in the girls’ 300 meter hurdles (51.03).
Sophomore Sirena Curtis finished eighth in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles (19.26).
Sophomore Troy Brandt, senior Tad Deatherage, sophomore Austin Droege, and junior Colby Stein narrowly missed adding a relay team to the state meet, finishing seventh in the boys 4x100 relay (48.47).
Stein placed third in the boys’ long jump (19.05), marking the second straight season the dynamic Stein qualified to the state meet in the long jump.
The state track meet will take place from May 17-19 in Jefferson City.
Congrats to all who competed and will be competing in the state track meet!
