Saints finish strongly in sectionals, sending three to state
On May 11, the Saint Paul Lutheran High School Saints competed in the sectional track meet, hoping to earn a chance to compete at the state track meet. Despite strong showings from all contestants, three Saint Paul Lutheran High School athletes qualified to compete at the state championships.
Adrien Martens qualified in three events. Her jump of 5 feet even was enough to earn her fourth-place in the girls’ high jump. A personal record time of 5:42.33 garnered her third-place in the 1600-meter run, while she ran the 800-meter run in a personal record time of 2:30.47 to finish fourth.
Trey Beerman qualified in both boys’ sprints. He took second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.47, while his run of 23.69 was enough for him to bring home the third place medal in the 200-meter dash.
Hurdler Ernests Racko qualified for state by finishing third in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.79.
Racko also recorded a time of 45.42 in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles to finish in seventh place.
Although she did not advance to the State meet, Anna Royuk ran well enough in the 300-meter hurdles to finish sixth. Her time was 54.95.
In the team competition, the girls finished 14th out of 23 schools. On the boys’ side, the gentlemen were 13th out of 23.
