Saint Paul Lutheran High School, in Concordia, graduated its 136th class during a commencement ceremony held Friday, May 17. A total of 53 students from across the United States — and seven foreign countries — received their diplomas this year.

Class Valedictorian Victoria “Tori” Ritzma spoke during the ceremony, talking to her classmates about shared memories, future goals, and the encouragement in their faith they received during their years at SPLHS. She also praised the school’s faculty and staff, as well as all of those she called the “SPLHS family.” Ritzma is the daughter of Eric and Teresa Ritzma, of Concordia.

Guest speaker for the ceremony was the Rev. Ivan “John” Elko. Elko is the General Bishop of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession (ECAC). He is the head of the largest Protestant church body in Slovakia, with around 315,000 members in 326 congregations. The bishop’s office is located in Bratislava, Slovakia.
