On Saturday, June 1, the Confederate Park in Higginsville will be swarming with history buffs — many dressed in Confederate attire — gathered to honored and remember old soldiers who are buried in the nearby Confederate Cemetery.

The memorial services will begin at 12:30 p.m., with the procession of the color guard, wearing Confederate uniforms, marching into the cemetery.

The program lasts approximately an hour, ending with the group singing of “Dixie” and retiring of the colors.

Various Confederate memorabilia will be on display, with some items for sale throughout the day. Ladies of the Daughters of the Confederacy will have bottled water and assorted soft drinks for sale.

The public is cordially invited to join in the celebration, held on the lawn of the chapel from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Confederate Park is located approximately one-mile north of Higginsville off Highway 13.

The event is sponsored by the Confederate Memorial Friends Association and the Department of Natural Resources.
