119th annual Corder Picnic begins today

The citizens of Corder will be hosting the 119th Annual Corder Picnic beginning today, June 19. Proceeds from the Corder Picnic historically are spent on community projects with a specific emphasis placed on the city park. Over the past years, the Corder Picnic Association has donated well over $50,000 to local projects.
This year’s picnic officers and committee leaders include: Chairwoman—Shelli Lee; Co-chair—Donna Biesemeyer; Secretary-Treasurer—David Limback; Entertainment—Tim Biesemeyer; Publicity—David Limback; Parade—Meagan Buesing and Tiffany Limback; Carnival—Don Lilleman: Grounds—Hubert Dickmeier; Queen Pageant—Chantel Kappelman; Dance—Gail Lilleman; Public Address System—David Limback; Rodeo—Luke Mahnken; and Washer Tournament—Chase Genser.
Corder is located three miles from the Higginsville airport, just south of Missouri Highway 20 on Lafayette County Road V; six miles north of Interstate 70; or seven miles south of U.S. Highway 24.

Wednesday June 19
Beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, with the Mutton Busting competition, the C-R McKellips Rodeo Company rodeo opens this year’s celebration. Mutton Busting entrants must be 60 pounds and under, and 9 years old or younger. Entry fee is $10. The regular rodeo begins at 8 p.m., with adult tickets selling for $10 each and children 5-12 for $5.

Thursday June 20
5 p.m.—The Lions Club Food Stand opens and VFW Post No. 4288 will offer pulled pork, brisket, polish sausage, tea, lemonade, soft drinks and beer.
6 p.m. to 10 p.m.—Toby’s Carnival is open with $20 armbands available. Armbands can be purchased in advance, for $15 per night or $35 for all three nights, at the Higginsville Chamber of Commerce, Equity Bank, Central Bank, The Corder Bank, and State Bank of Missouri-Alma.
7 p.m.—Miss Corder Pageant.
8 p.m.—Five in a Row.

Friday June 21
5p.m.—VFW; Lions Cub Food Stand; Corder Home & Community Club pie and ice cream stand.
6 p.m. to 10 p.m.—Toby’s Carnival.
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.—The Morton Sisters (free entertainment).
7 p.m. to 9 p.m.—Wine Stroll with Local Wineries. ($15 for tasting glass; must be 21; includes free admission to beer garden).
9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.—VFW Beer Garden with Keri Borchers, DJ. Admission is $5; must be 21 to be admitted; kids 10 and under admitted with parent.

Saturday June 22
7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.—VFW Breakfast.
9 a.m.—Bicycle Race (ages 5-15 – helmet required).
11 a.m.—Pedal Tractor Pull (ages 4-9). After the tractor pull there will be a chalk drawing contest (for all ages) followed by hot dog, watermelon and pie eating contests.
1 p.m. to 4 p.m.—Toby’s Carnival with $20 armband.
5p.m.—VFW; Lions Cub Food Stand; Corder Home & Community Club pie and ice cream stand.
6 p.m. to 10 p.m.—Toby’s Carnival with $20 armband.
6 p.m.—Washers Tournament - $20 per team.
7 p.m.—Parade (rules and entry forms available at The Corder Bank).
7:30 p.m.— Wildwood Boys (free entertainment).
9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.—VFW Beer Garden. MOJO Dogs; admission is $8; must be 21 to be admitted; children 10 and under admitted with parent.
