Lafayette County Extension Office releases schedule of upcoming 4-H/FFA events
The Lafayette County Extension Office recently released a schedule of upcoming 4-H and FFA events in the county.
4-H Horse Show
The Lafayette County 4-H/FFA Horse Show will take place Saturday, July 13, at the Fairgrounds Park Horse Arena in Higginsville. The 4-H/FFA Horse Show Opening Ceremony will begin at 9 a.m., according to Bill Oelrichs, Fair Board President. Ben Niendick, Stephanie Nagel, Eric Butler, Kris White and Brett Wahn are on the horse show committee.
The show will include 37 classes and 4-H riders from counties that border Lafayette County have been invited to participate. The Horse Show Committee wishes to thank all sponsors, the Horsemanship Project Leaders, and others who have helped with the Horse Show.
Super Farmer Contest and Clover Kids Fun Night
The Clover Kids Fun Night will be held immediately following the Clover Kids Pet Show on Monday, July 15. Clover Kids are members who are ages 5 to 7.
4-H members can participate in the Super Farmer Contest, which will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the Fairgrounds Park Arena. Contests could include calling a hog, tossing a hay bale, driving a nail, and balancing a load in a wheelbarrow. Teams must be made up of regular 4-H members, and teams must consist of one boy and one girl age 8-10, one boy and one girl age 11-13, and one boy and one girl age 14 and over.
Shooting Sports Contest
The Lafayette County Fair 4-H Shooting Sports contests will be held July 12, 13 and 14. The Western Heritage contest will be held on July 14 at Rod and Joan Zellerís Shooting Range. The contests will involve the disciplines of archery, rifle (air, pellet, small bore and muzzleloaders), shotgun and pistol (air and small bore), and hunter and outdoor skills. All the 4-H Shooting Sports Contests are under the supervision of Certified Shooting Sports leaders.
